New Moon in Libra: Planting Intentions in the Dark
Why this New Moon in Libra feels different
Libra is ruled by Venus. And right now, Venus isn't home. She's retrograde in Scorpio, deep in the underworld, looking at trust, intimacy, and what we've buried to keep the peace.
So this New Moon is a little unusual. The sign is all about harmony, but its ruler is busy with the hard truths beneath it. It's as if Libra is asking, what would real balance look like, now that I can see what's underneath?
That's why this isn't a moon for pretty intentions. It's a moon for honest ones. Where is the scale tipped too far? Where have you been giving more than you receive? Where has "keeping the peace" quietly cost you your own?
There's support here too. The New Moon makes an easy, flowing connection to Jupiter, which brings hope and a sense of possibility. It also faces Saturn from across the sky, a reminder that lasting balance takes commitment, not just good feelings.
And notice the timing. Venus slips back into Libra on October 25th, and the very next day brings the Full Moon in Taurus, another sign Venus rules. This whole lunar cycle belongs to her.
Where it lands for you: a guide by rising sign
Your rising sign shows which area of your life this New Moon is planting seeds in. I'm using whole sign houses here. If you don't know your rising, read for your Sun sign too.
Aries rising
The New Moon lands in your 7th house of partnership. This is a beginning in how you show up with the people closest to you. What would it look like to meet someone halfway, without losing yourself?
Plant this: a partnership built on honest give-and-take.
Taurus rising
It lands in your 6th house of daily rhythms and the body. Plant something small and steady. A morning practice, a gentler pace, a routine that actually feels like care.
Plant this: one small daily ritual that feels like care, not another obligation.
Gemini rising
It lands in your 5th house of creativity, romance, and play. This is your invitation to let joy back in. What did you love doing before you worried about being good at it?
Plant this: permission to create and play just for the joy of it.
Cancer rising
It lands in your 4th house of home and family. Tend your nest. This is a lovely moon for making your space softer, or for setting a quiet intention around family peace.
Plant this: a home that holds you, softer, calmer, more yours.
Leo rising
It lands in your 3rd house of conversation and connection. A new way of speaking wants to begin. Plant an intention around saying what you mean, kindly and clearly.
Plant this: one honest, kind conversation you've been waiting to have.
Virgo rising
It lands in your 2nd house of money, values, and self-worth. What would change if you believed you were worth more? This is a strong moon for a new relationship with what you earn and what you value.
Plant this: a new belief about what you're worth.
Libra rising
This is your New Moon. It lands right on your 1st house of self, body, and how you show up in the world. Plant an intention just for you. Not for a partner, not for the people you take care of. You.
Plant this: an intention that's only for you.
Scorpio rising
It lands in your 12th house of rest, dreams, and the inner world. Your seeds are planted in quiet this time. Let yourself rest more than feels productive, and pay attention to your dreams.
Plant this: rest. Let the quiet do some of the work.
Sagittarius rising
It lands in your 11th house of friendship and community. Who do you want around you for this next chapter? A new connection, or a renewed one, may be waiting.
Plant this: one connection that feels like your people.
Capricorn rising
It lands in your 10th house of career and public life. Plant an intention around work that feels balanced, not just impressive. What would success look like if it didn't cost you your peace?
Plant this: a vision of success that protects your peace.
Aquarius rising
It lands in your 9th house of learning, beliefs, and meaning. You may feel called to study something new, travel, or return to a spiritual practice. Follow the curiosity.
Plant this: curiosity. A class, a book, or a practice that opens you up.
Pisces rising
It lands in your 8th house of intimacy and deep healing. This New Moon asks you to plant something brave, like more trust, more honesty, or letting someone in a little further.
Plant this: trust, and letting someone in a little further.
A simple New Moon ritual
You don't need anything elaborate. Just a little time, on or around October 10th.
Start with stillness. Energy is strongest on the day of the new moon, but certainly we can work with it a few days before and after.
Roll out your mat for twenty minutes of long, quiet Yin holds. Stay in each shape for 3-5 minutes, breath by breath, until your body has nothing left to resist. Before you can plant an intention, you need enough space to know what you actually want.
Here's a simple sequence for Libra season. Libra traditionally rules the lower back and kidneys, and it loves symmetry, so these shapes soften the back body and work both sides evenly.

• Butterfly, 3 to 5 minutes. Find a comfortable seat. Bring the soles of the feet together, knees wide (use blocks under knees if need be), inhale a tall spine and gently fold forward until you feel a stretch\stretch. Let your head be heavy, use a block to support if needed.
• Sphinx, 3 to 5 minutes. Lie on your belly and come up onto your forearms, elbows under shoulders or forward if shoulders are feeling too much tension. Allow the belly and glutes to be soft. Feel the gentle compression in your lower back and breathe into it. If too much compression stack hands or forearms and rest forehead on top (crocodile pose).
• Bananasana, 3 to 5 minutes each side. Lie on your back, walk heels to the left as far as they will go, shimmy shoulders to the left until you find a banana shape (arc) in the body. If available arms can be overhead in a comfortable position, right ankle can cross over the left ankle. Come out the same way you can came, pause and repeat on the other side. Notice if one side feels different from the other.
• Supine twist, 3 to 5 minutes each side. Let your knees fall to one side, arms wide. A small lesson in letting go, then coming back to center.
• Savasana, 5 minutes. Rest completely. This is where the space opens up.
Then light a candle and write down one area of your life where the balance feels off. Your rising sign guide above might point you there.
Now, instead of listing what you want to fix, write what you want to feel more of, in a positive way. Libra responds to feeling, not force.
Fold the paper towards you and keep it somewhere you'll see it. On October 26th, at the Full Moon in Taurus, open it again and notice what's shifted.
example: I feel imbalanced in expressing my creativity • I give myself permission to create and play, just for the joy of it.
Balance is a practice
One of the quiet truths of Yin is that balance isn't somewhere you arrive and stay. It's something you return to, pose by pose, moon by moon. This New Moon in Libra won't hand you harmony. It simply asks whether you're willing to keep practicing it. If you'd like to practice together, our Yin classes are a gentle place to land this week. And if you're practicing at home, I hope you give yourself the same stillness.
Let it tell you what the next chapter wants to look like.
With love from Green Lotus, Sharyn
